WIYM: The Best Makeup for Oily Skin

Hey queens! we’re super excited for this week’s blog. We’ve been getting a lot of questions asking what makeup products we recommend for oily skin. With the multitude of brands and products out there, there’s no one right answer to that question.

Oil absorbent makeup is is important for maintaining an all day look when you have oily skin, however, it’s not just as simple as what makeup products you use. It’s also important to maintain proper skincare.

In this edition of WHAT’S IN YOUR MAKEUP BAG, we’ll recommend some of our favorite absorbent products for reducing the look of oily skin, and we will also give you a few skincare tips that will help you keep your skin looking clear and flawless.

First Thing First: Skin Care

Keeping your skin clean and exfoliated is the most important part of cosmetology. Using a makeup remover to take off your makeup at the end of each day is a good start. Doing this as part of your routine before bed is a great way to keep your skin fresh and clear. Makeup can clog pores and lead to acne, so we recommend keeping disposable makeup remover wipes handy to make sure your face is clean before bed. This way you are less likely wake up with any unsightly pimples in the morning

There are alot of different wipes that are available. For a girl on a budget, the best pick in our opinion is the pink grapefruit wipes from Burt’s Bees. Not only do these wipes work really well, they also leave the skin clear, and they smell great too! And Burt’s Bees is a cruelty free company, so you really cannot go wrong!

It’s also good to use a gentle cleanser each morning to wash away any sweat and buildup that has accumulated on your skin overnight. After using a facial cleanser, it’s good to use a gentle toner to help close pores and and dry any residual oils that may be on the skin and just below the surface.

After cleansing and toning your skin, you should always moisturize using a lightweight, non greasy moisturizer. We really like the Jane Iredale Beauty Prep hydrating moisturizer.

Primer creates an extra layer between your skin and your makeup. Priming products are used to help makeup last longer, smooth the skin's surface, and even out the skin tone. Different primers can be used on the face, eyes, lips, and even brows & lashes. Choosing your primer depends on your makeup focus and beauty goals.

For people with oily skin we highly recommend Hourglass veil mineral primer. This is an oil-free primer with a light, silky texture that leaves a smooth canvas for makeup, while reducing the look of redness, pores, and wrinkles.

If your skin is naturally shiny, and produces a lot of excess oil, it can be a struggle to find a foundation that controls excess oil and stays in place all day.

The most common reason that makeup slips and slides down oily complexions is because it’s the wrong formula. if you have an oily complexion, you should stick to foundations that are matte and oil-free.

Lately, there have been some great reviews about NARS natural radiant longwear foundation.

It’s an oil free, breathable, fade-resistant foundation that is the first foundation designed to provide 16 hours of fade-resistant wear.

Shop Cruelty Free

From primer, to cleanser, and even cruelty free lashes from your favorite one dollar lash club, you should only use products that have not been tested on animals. Sure, every girl wants flawless makeup looks. But be sure to use products that have a cruelty free seal of approval. Look for the bunny!
