Strip False Eyelashes V.S. Eyelash Extensions: What’s Best for Your Lifestyle?

There’s nothing quite like making a statement with a glance and turning heads with stunning lashes. We are here with Veronica and for our latest video it’s time to talk about a highly debated topic in the falsies community: Strip Lashes Vs Lash Extensions.

There’s a lot of people on both sides of the debate, and there are a lot of pros and cons when it comes to strip lashes vs. lash extensions. So today Veronica is going to discuss both types of lashes and some of the upsides and downsides of each.

Strip Lashes

Strip lashes are the first false eyelashes that comes to mind for most. Strip lashes have been around for about a century, with early film stars like Audrey Hepburn and her contemporaries popularizing doe-eyed, full lashed looks like the one pictured here.

Strip lashes come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and styles There really is a lash for every occasion, and so many different varieties to choose from allows you to change up your look as fast as you can bat an eyelash. Strip lashes are perfect for dress-up events and nights out on the town.

They are not designed to be worn overnight or during showers or swimming. All the lashes are sewn to one thread, so application can take less than 1 minute of your day if you know
how to apply false eyelashes like a pro.

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions first hit the scene in the early 2000’s. Originating in Korea, this trend quickly swept across the world. The great thing about extensions is that they are a semi permanent solution. They allow you to wake up with lashes already on, which can save time and effort when it comes to your daily beauty ritual.

Eyelash extensions require a professional stylist.  Each lash is applied individually to create a completely natural addition to the thickness, shape, and style of the lashes. Typically, lash stylists will have an array of lengths and volumes for you to pick from. Unlike strip lashes, once you choose your style, you are fairly committed to it with less options to change your style.

Unlike strip lashes that are removed each night, eyelash extensions fall out naturally and will need attention from your cosmetician about every 2-3 weeks.  This may vary depending on how you take care of your lashes and the natural ‘shedding’ process of your eyes. Without proper eye care, extensions can lead to eye infections (and that’s true for strip lashes, too).

Practice Makes Perfect

Veronica has been wearing false eyelashes for a long time, and her best advice for anyone new to the lash game, is that practice makes perfect. It isn’t always easy to apply lashes, or to know how to pre-trim lashes to fit your eye when you first start out. But if you stick with it, after a while it will be like second nature. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to apply your lashes in as little as 30 seconds with the right lash hacks

With lash extensions on the other hand, it’s more of a detail oriented process and requires a trained lash technician to apply them. Individual lashes are glued into your natural lashes, and it can be a time consuming process.

Comparing the Costs

When it comes to lash extensions, you are looking at a cost of potentially hundreds of dollars to maintain them and keep them looking as stunning as can be. These extension services can cost anywhere between $100-$500 depending on the cosmetician, experience, salon, products, tools, and as well as the number of lashes required to complete the look.  On average, cosmeticians use between 30 and 80 individual lashes on each eye. Depending on the skill of your cosmetician, this process can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours.

The extensions have to be filled every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain that perfect look. This can cost anywhere from $40-$150, and can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 1.5 hours.

Strip lashes will range from $1-$40 per pair. The biggest benefit of this dollar lash club’s strip lashes is that they are so cost effective. You can get lashes for as little as one dollar per pair from us at Dollar Eyelash Club.

Maintaining Your Look

A good pair trip lashes can be cleaned, stored and reused daily for about a week if maintained properly. Once you have worn a pair for the week, simply throw them out and use a new pair.

On the other hand, while lash extensions last 6 to 8 weeks before they need to be removed and reapplied, it is recommended that you go in for touch ups at about 3 to 4 weeks to keep them looking their best.

Removing Lashes

With strip lashes, the glue used to apply them is water soluble, and comes off rather easily. You can simply wet a q-tip with water and gently moisten the glue to soften it, making removal a simple and easy process.

Lash extensions on the other hand, use a much stronger type of glue, and therefore require a little bit more intensive process to remove. One way is to use steam to soften the glue. Another method involves using coconut oil to break down the glue. Let’s just say that process can get kind of messy.

Making a Decision

Eyelash extensions are awesome! But they are a financial investment that comes with a care routine you can’t ignore.  If you’re not completely willing to invest in appointments every 3-4 weeks or keep up with the lash care lash extensions need, it’s better to stick to strip lashes.

Not only will you save a ton of money in the end, it’s much easier to keep the hygiene of your eyes intact.  If you do decide to go with lash extensions, make sure that you take the time to research your lash stylist and talk through the process with a professional.
