Today we’re here with veronica, she’s fresh faced and hasn’t applied any makeup yet, so it’s the perfect time for a makeup tutorial!
This week we are going to teach you how to do your makeup just like our favorite fashion icon, Kim Kardashian.
One of Kim's signature looks is a super clean, fresh faced makeup with a very neutral color palette as well as a very neutral nude lip color. She also goes quite heavy on the brows and lashes. Today we are going to learn the step by step process to pull off this beautiful look.
Step 1: The Foundation
We’re going to start with a primer that veronica is testing out on her skin for the first time, the ‘Smashbox Photo Finish Primer.’ Primer is good because it evens out the skin and gives a more flawless finish. How it works is that it fills in any crevices and pores to give your skin an smooth, soft appearance.
With the primer applied, Veronica's skin is looking silky smooth and even.
Veronica doesn't like to wear a lot of foundation unless she’s attending a function or doing a photoshoot, instead, she’s going to use a tinted moisturizer from Cara. This Is essentially just a lotion with a bit of pigment in it to help even out skin color and give a little extra life to pale skin.
With the tinted moisturizer applied, you can already see that perfect finish starting to show through.
Next, veronica is going to use a bit of Jane Iredale loose mineral powder to set the look of the skin.
We want to apply the powder with a large brush to make sure we are getting even coverage
Kim Kardashian has a very muted color palette with very neutral skin tones, so to get the perfect look for the lips, Veronica applies a bit of the tinted moisturizer to her lips as a base for her lip color. If your lips are normally very red, this is a good way to even the color of your lips with the rest of your skin.
Set the lips with a bit of powder and we are ready to move on to the next step.
Step 2: The Brows
Kim K has a very prominent thick brow, and to emulate this look, veronica is going to fill hers in with a bit of shadow to make them appear fuller and thicker.
Starting from the head of the brow and going against the grain, we want to put the pigment below the hair and onto the skin itself, rather than sitting on top of the brow. This avoids any empty spots on the brows. Move then the to arch, and then last the tail.
Because we want the brows to look thicker, we want to work in strokes, one on top of the other to really fill the brow in with color to make it look fuller.
It’s important to pay attention to whether you are adding your thickening strokes to the top or the bottom of the brow so that you fill the other brow in evenly. The curve and shape of your brow will look different depending on where you put the strokes. Make sure to work evenly on both sides - nobody wants lopsided eyebrows.
The goal here is to create a brow that is fairly even straight across with just a bit of an arch.
With the first part of the brow process done, you can already see the difference in with and in the shape of the arch. What we want to do now is flip our brush and go back over the brow again, this time moving with the grain to apply the finishing touches to the brow.
A quick final touch on the first brow.
Then the other.
There you have it, the brows are finished, and this makeup look is already looking very “Kim K.” You can really see how thick these brows look from the head to the tail, compared to before. We’re ready to move onto the eye makeup!
Step 3: The Eyeshadow
Kim K likes to rock a shimmery highlighted look around the eyes, with a bit of highlight above and below. We are using a very neutral, light shade to add some eye-popping highlight to the eyes. Choose a color with a skin tone color.
We are going to start by applying a bit of eyeshadow from the Tarte Palette to the top lid and inside corners of the eyes.
You can see how it just makes the lid “pop” ever so slightly.
Follow this process just below the lash line.
By applying the lighter shade to the lid, this will make the darker colors of the makeup pop out. Since we want the lashes to be the real focal point of this look, adding the highlight will really make those lashes turn heads.
We are going to use a Jane Iredale shimmer.
We apply the shimmer to the top eyelid with a fresh brush and under the lash line overtop of the light shadow.
Next, using the brush that we used with the tarte palette, we want to blend the shimmer into the skin and also to clean up the edges around our highlight. We want a really blended natural look.
Perfect. You can see her eyes are really starting to pop thanks to the highlight. Next up is the liner.
Step 4: Eyeliner & Mascara
For the bottom liner, we are going to use our Too Faced liner. It’s a really good liner because it’s very easy to apply, and it is fairly smudge proof.
We want to apply the liner to the bottom lid, just along the lash line. We are only going to bring our liner just shy of the center of the eyelid.
Next, Veronica is going to use an Arbonne mascara on the bottom lashes. We’ve never tried this product before, so let’s give it a go!
While it adds good length to the lashes, it’s not our favorite. It’s does not add enough volume, and Veronica has very thin sparse lashes. To solve this, she’s going to need to use 2 or 3 coats on each eye. Still, overall it’s a good product.
You can see the extra depth that we have added to our eyes, and how the dark mascara and liner really contrasts well with the highlight shadow.
Next, we are going to move on to the liner and lashes on the top lids. We are going to be using a Kat Von D. liquid tattoo liner.
This liner is great because it has a really fine tip that allows for precision and fine detail.
This is one of our favorite liners to use because it gives a very clean line and uniform coverage.
With the eyeliner applied. This look is really starting to come together
A final touch of mascara on the top lashes, and we’re ready to move on to the next step
Step 5: The Lashes
We are going to be using a set of 3D faux mink ‘Man Eater’ lashes from Dollar Eyelash Club. These are great full volume, cruelty free lashes that you can have delivered right to your door.
These lashes have been pre trimmed to fit veronicas eye. If you don’t know how to trim lashes, you can find the complete how to, here.
With the lashes applied, this makeup look really makes the eyes pop. We love this fresh faced look. We are almost finished with this amazing makeup look. All that’s left is a bit of highlight, contour, and the lips.
We are using a sephora highlight and contour tri-palette for our forehead highlight.
We want to apply a bit of highlight to the forehead.
Below the eyes and around the top of the cheekbones.
Using a darker powder shade from Sephora, we want to add a contour to the temple, below the cheekbone, and under the jawline. A good tip here is to make a ‘3’ shape with your contour shade.
Step 6: The Lips
For the lips, we are using one of our favorite shades. It is a Sephora Nude #40 Lip Stain.
PROTIP: Apply a bit of moisturizing chapstick before applying a lip stain to help retain moisture prevent your lips from drying out.
Applying our lip stain.
A touch of powder to lighten.
Last but not least, a bit of clear lip lacquer to finish the lips.
