How to Create Full Lips

There aren’t many people who can honestly say they wouldn’t like to have plumper, pouty lips. We’re here with Jessica for this weeks video, and she is going to show us how to create fuller, more kissable lips. *SMOOCH*

A lot of people don’t want to commit to lip injections, and while there is nothing wrong with them, Jessica is going to show us some other great ways to achieve fuller looking lips that you can add to your everyday makeup routine.

Use a Lip Liner to Create the Illusion of Fuller Lips

Just as you would choose the color of your blush or color your hair to accentuate your natural skin tone, the same thing applies to picking a lip liner. One good trick to choosing a good color is to pick a color that is 1 to 2 shades darker or lighter than the color of your lipstick or stain. A darker color will add definition to the lips, while a lighter shade will give the lips a fuller appearance.

If you have thinner lips, a lighter color of lip liner will create the illusion of fuller lips. If your lips are full, and you want a little bit more definition, a dark shade will be your best bet.

PROTIP: It is important to note that we are not going for a high-contrast 90’s lip liner look with the drastic difference in the color of the liner and the fill color. It was hideous then, and it’s hideous now.

Today, for our fill color we are going to be using Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick in the shade ‘Exorcism’.

For our liner, we are using a basic lip liner just a shade lighter than our lipstick.

PROTIP: if you want to get really creative with it, put a line of a lighter shade between the dark line and the fill color in the center of the bottom lip and the ‘cupids bow’. Then apply a darker shade on the outer edges to give make the lips look fuller towards the center and create the perfect pout.

Creating the Look

Step 1: Liner

First, before we apply any color, we want to apply a layer of moisturizing chapstick and let it dry thoroughly. This is because most lipsticks and stains have a tendency of drying out your lips, so to prevent the dehydrating effects of the stain, we lock in the moisture with a good chapstick or lip balm

Next, we want to apply our lip liner to the bottom lip first.

Starting from the center, we want to work our way outward towards the corners of the lips.

For the top we want to draw our line the same way, starting in the center of the “cupids bow” and working towards the outside corners.

Next, we can draw a line and 2 lines at about a 45-degree angle from the center of the bottom lip and from the cupids bow.

This is a great way to create a nice definition and a bit of shadow beneath your lip stain.

Step 2: Applying the Lip Stain

When applying the lip stain, we want to go a bit over the edges of our liner, and apply it lightly over top of the liner, rather than simply filling in the spaces. This will allow us to create a seamless natural look.

For the top lip, we want to once again start from the center and work our way out to the corners of the mouth.

Next, using the same method, we apply our stain to the bottom lip. We also want to make this a very visual process to make sure we are filling the lips evenly and applying our color in a uniform manner so that this look appears as natural as possible.

Jessica's lips are looking very full and defined, but there is one step to go, a subtle highlight.

Step 3: Finishing the Look with a Touch of Highlight.

you can use a bit of gloss to create highlights with nude lip colors, but for this look, Jessica is going to use a bit of color from her favorite Tarte Palette in the shade ‘Caregiver’ to create the finishing touch of this look.

First, we are going to just lightly dab the color onto our lips with our fingertip.

Next, we want to gently pat the color out to blend it out.

With our highlight applied, you can see that this really brings the attention to the center of the lips and creates the illusion of fuller pouty lips.
