5 Tips for Healthy Eating On Easter

Staying true to your healthy eating goals is especially hard around the holidays. Nothing says temptation like a Cadbury egg. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to curb completely destroying your health goals when the holidays roll around. Use these 5 tips to make healthier choices on Easter.

1. Don’t Go to Dinner on an Empty Stomach

It’s common knowledge that eating on an empty stomach isn’t good for you, but it also makes it difficult to make healthy choices when there’s a ton of tempting food in front of you. Eat a couple of pieces of fruit an hour or two before Easter dinner.  This will help get your gut in digestion mode while eliminating the ‘starving’ feeling that typically leads to overeating.

2. Drink More Water

Your organs (especially your digestive organs) need water to function. That being said, timing is everything. Drink a large glass of water 30 minutes before dinner to avoid diluting the nutrients in your food.

3. Don’t Skimp on Veggies

Don’t forget about the veggies! Make sure to snag every vegetable on the table. Instead of saying no to the holiday goodies, grab a small handful of everything else. Portion control goes a long way.

4. Wait 20 Minutes Before Your Second Plate

Your body needs time to process what you’ve eaten. Instead of jumping for a second plate, wait 20 minutes after finishing your first and ask yourself if you’re still hungry. More often than not, the answer is no. (This is also an excellent way to avoid feeling ‘over-stuffed’.)

5. Measure Dessert Carefully

If you’re committed to your goal, choose the healthiest option. If fruit and nuts are accessible, grab a handful. If not, don’t be afraid to enjoy dessert guilt free! I believe it’s all about balance. Whether you follow these tips or not, don’t deny yourself a treat on the holidays. Instead, grab a smaller portion.
